Watch product video

Specifically designed to meet the new training requirements of the American Board of Surgery Flexible Endoscopy Curriculum, which applies to all applicants training from 2017-2018 academic year onwards.

The training system has been proven to improve endoscopic performance, resulting in higher pass rates as measured by:

  - Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery

  - Global Assessment of Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Skills

  - Assessment of Competency in Endoscopy

Developed in collaboration with the National Capital Region Simulation Consortium and the USU / Walter Reed Department of Surgery, the system has been designed for in-situ training, with the use of trainees own endoscope.

Skills Gained:

Watch the product video for demonstrations of the following:

  • Scope manipulation
    • Performing basic endoscopic navigation, using scope torque and dial control to align 10 sequential shapes within the lumen
  • Tool targeting
    • Learning the skills of hand-eye co-ordination required for biopsy, connecting to 10 metal discs using the simulated biopsy tool
  • Retroflexion
    • Learning to position the endoscope in retroflexion to identify and navigate to targets. Simulates evaluation of the cardia of the stomach and distal rectum
  • Loop management
    • Navigation to manage the correct reduction of a standard alpha loop. Learning to recognize and successfully reduce the loop to continue advancing the colonoscope
  • Mucosal inspection
    • Inspection of the colonic mucosa to identify polyps. The endoscope is withdrawn from the cecum to the rectum and lumen is systematically evaluated. Use of insufflation to discriminate between polyps and folds

Product Qualities:

realism
  • Built upon a platform identified as highly realistic in trial comparing GI endoscopy simulators
  • Allows use of actual colonoscope or gastroscope
  • Requires use of suction and insufflation for optimal performance
  • Haptic feedback nearly identical to actual endoscopy
features
  • Electronic sensors provide visual and auditory feedback and help track task completion
  • Five discrete tasks facilitate deliberate practice and distributed training
  • Peer reviewed evidence for effective use in assessment and training
  • Established proficiency based skills curriculum with expert derived performance benchmarks for each task
versatility
  • Represents fundamental skills for all types of endoscopy
  • Can be used to simulate a simple colonoscopy, redundant sigmoid, alpha loop, reverse alpha loop, and others
  • All tasks are re-usable so there is no additional cost for consumables
